Even if you’ve heard this advice before, it warrants repeating every once in a while: what you do to your skin before applying an ounce of makeup is super-duper important. In fact, it can make the difference between a flawless, radiant face and one that’s not quite as glowing as it could be. Beyond that, prepping your skin means your makeup will apply more easily and it’ll even help it stay put for longer.
Consider skincare as your makeup primer. Say it with me: Prep, prep, prep. Cleaning, toning, and moisturizing are all key.
Here’s How I Prep my skin:
After properly cleansing my skin, I moisturize using Kiehls Ultra Face Moisturizer to hydrate my skin. I then go in with MAC’s Skin Visage Base Primer and prime my skin. After priming my skin to ensure I have a glow from within look, I use MAC’s Stobe Cream. If you suffer from dark circles under your eyes or hyperpigmentation, in general, I highly suggest using MAC’s Prep and Prime Highlighter Pen in the shade Peach Lustre to color correct.
Completing these steps means you’ll have a great foundation for, well, your foundation!

I couldn’t agree more. My skin prep is serious because if I skip that, I know my makeup will not apply right or lay right.

This makeup look is flawless. I definitely have to prep my face too or I don’t feel okay with applying my makeup.

I don’t wear a lot of makeup so when I do I’m super clueless. Thank you for sharing this because I definitely do *not have a pre-makeup routine.

This is great advice. I’m not really into makeup, but I can imagine it does require prep to ensure pores aren’t clogged afterward.
