An important lesson about networking I’ve learned early on from attending really cool events like NYC Fashion Week, NAACP Image Awards, or entertainment showcases, for example, is that you don’t need to know EVERYBODY.
I attended a networking event hosted by a new digital media company in Louisville, Ky. Called the Louisville Scoop. It was such a neat event being that the city of Louisville is up and coming with the social scene. What made this event special was the ability to connect with like-minded individuals who are millennial and are in the community doing great things.
Sometimes getting to know a personal assistant or friend of the CEO that you’re so desperately trying to get the attention of at an event is best. If everyone is taking the SAME route, why not try another one? I’ve met a lot of people this way and I now have friends in other cities that I could call and ask for help or even people that when I’m ready can put me in the rooms of the exact people I need to make something shake because I’ve nurtured those relationships with no intention of having an ‘ask.’

I went to this event alone with the sole intent to promote my blog and my new freelancing makeup and lashing business. I passed out quite a few business cards but most importantly was able to make organic connections and impressions with people. I used to be so shy so going to an event alone like is something I practice all the time to do things that scare the hell out of me *LOL*. The most important thing is to be yourself.
Check out what I wore along with some other Behind the Scenes pics of the event!
