One of the best compliments I receive to date is how clear and glowy my skin is. If you’ve EVER dealt with acne or hormonal breakouts that have left hyperpigmenation, and acne scars on your skin then you can understand why hearing any compliment about your skin makes your day!
I have not always had clear, hyperpigmentation free, and balanced skin. Not having clear skin can effect your self-esteem tremendously and I was committed to finding and educating myself on skincare and products that would help make my youthful skin thrive.
When I first began my skincare journey I was a junior in high school dealing with what I thought was puberty. I would try all kinds of drug store face washes such as Clean and Clear, Dove Beauty bar, Neutrogena, Noxema you name it, I’ve tried it. I couldn’t understand how these products worked for some but didn’t work for me. The next product that I tried that broke the mold for me was, Proactiv.
Can we just pause for a praise break?…………….. And we’re back!
Proactiv has forever changed my skin and skincare routine! I have now been using this revolutionary acne system since 2007! The first treatment I tried was their traditional 3-step system then switched to their Proactiv+ 5 years later. I visibly noticed differences in my skin after a couple of days using it.
When it comes to skincare I think it’s important to get to know YOUR skin type and what products work for you. When it comes to your skin and trying to get it clear, understand that it’s a process that won’t happen over night. That’s why I call it a journey because you’re going to switch products often (As you should) and creating a skin care regimen isn’t easy.
Here are 10 Products I use to balance acne prone skin :
I use this 3 -step kit daily. It has an 1) exfoilator, 2) a pore targeting cream as step 2, described as a medicine that stops blemishes and targets the pores, 3) The 3rd step is a medicated moisturizer that brightens skin tone and fades post acne marks.
2) Cetaphill
This is such a bomb, mild and gentle drug store facial cleanser. I usually use this as an alternate cleanser so I’m not exfoliating everyday.
3) Vitamin C Serum (12%) -EmerginC
This Vitamin C serum is one of the most stable, high concentration vitamin C liquid gel serums on the market. This serum fights free-radical damage, antioxidant, key co-factor in the production of collagen, improves skin tone and texture, calming, fights sun damage, improves pigmentation problems.
4) Mutlti-Vitamin + Retinol Serum -EmerginC
This serum is described to be one of the most comprehensive multi-vitamin serums available, with air-tight active ingredient encapsulation. This serum also, fights free-radical damage, antioxidant, helps increase cellular turnover, strengthens skin, can diminish appearance of broken capillaries, hydrates, co-factor in the production of collagen, improves tone and texture, soothes skin, can lessen redness associated with rosacea.
5) Hyper-Vitalizer Cream -EmerginC
This is one of the best moisturizers I use. It’s described to be a rich, nourishing, hydrating cream that combines the super-potent “master antioxidant” alpha-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10 and lutein. Alpha-lipoic acid is an essential lipid and water soluble cellular energizer that can revitalize “spent” vitamins and antioxidants such as vitamins C, E and coenzyme Q10, as well as a potent anti-inflammatory. Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cellular energizer that provides the “spark” in all cellular processes. Lutein is a plant-based potent antioxidant and protector against UVB sun damage. Other ingredients include a state-of-the-art vitamin H, hyaluronic acid and more.
6) Mutli-Fruit Cleanser–EmerginC
This cleanser is very moisturizing and it is described to be a gentle but effective soap-free cleanser which helps remove dead skin cells, cellular debris and make-up without over-drying the skin.
7) Peach Toner-EmerginC
This is a newer toner I’ve incorporated in my routine. It’s a bit on the higher end but it’s an effective, active toner which leaves skin toned and refreshed.
8) Neutorgena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Triple-Action Toner
This is a drug store toner I’ve been using for years and I love it! This step might seem like you could leave out but trust me, try a toner after you wash your face and you will notice the difference.
9) Glycolic Eye Cream-Mario Badescu
I’ve recently added this eye cream into my routine because I was tired of my under eyes appearing dry and If you wear concealer like me daily, then this area will soon be very hydrating and reduces the appearance of lines after initial makeup application. This eye cream is described to target visible signs of aging with our highly emollient, overnight eye treatment. Glycolic Acid helps soften the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration to keep the under-eye area smooth and even. Radiant skin is revealed as a nourishing blend of Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, and Olive Leaf Extract replenishes dehydrated skin with the moisture it craves—encouraging a more youthful-looking under-eye.
10) Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturizer
This moisturizer has been a game changer for me. It’s a bit heavy however, I don’t mind it wearing it throughout the day. This moisturizer is infused with Squalane and Glycerin, which helps soften and moisturize skin.
