Mental Health Awareness is observed during the month of May but should be acknowledged year-round. With EVERYTHING (mass school shootings, racism, insecurities, LIFE etc.) going on in the world it’s very important that you are turning inwardly to make sure you’re mentally doing OK.
As someone who overcame depression, I can remember vividly wanting to go back to a time where I didn’t feel like I was in a black hole to figure out how I got there, to begin with. That’s the thing about depression, I didn’t realize I was depressed. I learned to pay attention to the things I needed more of and found new ways to implement them into my life.
Mental Health isn’t only depression but it can be a host of different things. Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. It’s doing things for yourself that make you ready to be the best version of you to take on your day whether that’s personally or professionally.
I feel like my best self when I do the things listed below:
Go to therapy
Write in a journal
Pray and go to church
Practice Yoga
Read a book
Write empowering quotes and affirmations to yourself
Talk with someone who you feel safe to be vulnerable with
Say ‘NO’ when you feel/mean it
Working out
Learn a new skill
Turn OFF your phone
Unfollow anyone or ANYTHING that makes you feel like you aren’t enough.
Take a relaxing bath
Sleep!
Protect your VIBE! Any negative conversations, thoughts, saying- Get rid of it/them.
Create a UP tempo playlist. AVOID sad/love songs
Have patience with yourself. Honor the process
Don’t forget to smile!
