For my birthday this year, I had the amazing opportunity to guest co-host the new Thirty 1 Cents Show on Dash Radio (Talk X). If you’re into Podcast’s then this will be a very entertaining show you’ll want to listen to every week at 7 p.m. PST. 3 Dimes and a Penny is the genius concept behind the shows name. The shows original cast includes comedian Guy Torry, Carson Williams, Kita Williams, Chanti Rudolph, and Tamara Reid.
Let me just tell you, your girl was extremely nervous and scared to death! This was my first public speaking engagement/ appearance and I had no idea how or what I was going to say or even how to host! I was guest co-hosting the Thirty 1 Cents Show with the lovely Ms. Luenell who is best known for humor on Def Comedy Jam. She was soo welcoming and funny!
My favorite thing about this experience is that I had people who believed in me, even when I didn’t. People who took a chance on me even when I was scared shitless, pushed me to do something that was outside of my comfort zone. That’s going to be the theme for me this year. Doing things that scare the hell out of you but doing them anyway! I’m not afraid to speak publically, I’m more nervous about having a camera in my face and not being “ON” when I need to be. But that’s the thing, it didn’t need to be perfect, I didn’t need to be perfect I just needed to have fun and give my unfiltered opinion which is why I truly believe and working hard and doing your best because you never know who may be watching you. The best part about this experience is that I got to share this experience with my big sisters Kita and Benecia! Kita’s always pushing and encouraging me to be the best version of myself and a walking example of what could happen when you take a leap of faith. I also had my other Big sister Benecia, who is also the floor manager of the show, coaching me from behind the camera! You never know when that opportunity is going to come to show the world what you’re made of.
My advice would be to always stay prepared. You do that by practicing and recording yourself on camera, asking for constructive criticism, and having an unwavering belief in yourself and in your ability to create the life that you’ve always imagined. This experience gave me the push I needed to keep going and also the sign I needed that’s telling me that I’m on the right path. I’m extremely grateful God gave me this chance.
What experience have you had that scared the daylights out of you but you did it anyway? What did it teach you?
