Ready to embrace a vegan lifestyle? I’m slowly but surely easing my way into the latest trend when it comes to products that are vegan/cruelty-free.
More and more beauty brands are jumping on the vegan hype and ditching animal-derived ingredients all together. Not sure what that means?
When it boils down to it, it’s hard to know whether a makeup brand is really, truly, completely cruelty-free. However, like all buzzwords in beauty—organic! natural! green!—the definition of vegan makeup is mired in controversy. Vegan isn’t synonymous with natural, organic, or even cruelty-free (in fact, vegan makeup can sometimes be even more chemically-processed)
The only way to know for sure if your makeup is vegan is to become an eagle-eyed ingredient label reader. Makeup that is all-natural, organic, and otherwise good for the environment will often utilize animal-derived conditioners and binders like beeswax and lanolin. Other common non-vegan buzzwords: carmine, squalene, oleic acid, glycerine, and collagen.
You don’t have to be a vegan to wear vegan makeup. I am NOT a vegan and do not plan to be. However, I’m trying to live a more compassionate lifestyle, and the choice of where your money goes is an entirely personal one.
Not to mention, if you’ve been wearing makeup a while you’ll notice the subtle differences in vegan/cruelty-free products.

Thanks, for the list of companies. I’ve been wanting to try Lipbar for a while now. I’m a lipstick girl and I love the colors of the lipsticks. I already use, NYX Professionals. They are one of my favorite brands.

I 💖 that Fenty is cruelty-free! It makes me have even more love and respect for Rihanna. Thank you for the list! I agree with you, although, I will eat vegan dishes, and I love fur babies, my diet is not vegan.
