While it’s top of mind now more than ever, let’s just get one thing straight: Every day is an opportunity to celebrate Black culture.
Black consumers account for a disproportionate amount of product sales in a number of consumer goods categories. One of these categories is Beauty.
A 2018 report found that 85% of spending on ethnic hair and beauty products is attributed to black consumers. It’s no big secret that there’s power in the black dollar, a concept that the beauty industry has been slow to grasp. But we aren’t interested in tokenism; we are interested in black-owned brands that create products based on their relatable black experience .
Few products were created with dark skin tones in mind, and many brands mistakenly thought one “deep” foundation shade was enough. Walking through the beauty aisle was an isolating experience. That’s why black-owned brands, especially created by women, matter so much.
When products are made for us and by us, it makes a huge difference — especially now.

To be honest, I’m not much of a makeup wearer, but I would like to learn and have purchased a few things to start learning. It’s good to know that these products work so I will definitely have to check it out.
