You never know what the day may hold and that could not ring more true during this time.
There’s a new update from government officials every hour, and we’re collectively in a heightened sense of panic, and it feels impossible to tear ourselves away from our devices. While many of us are going to spend much more time at home in the foreseeable future, that doesn’t mean we have to succumb to pure chaos or neglect our mental and physical health in the process. And stepping up your self-care is a great way to stay positive, and busy.
Here’s the thing: practicing self-care isn’t selfish and it can even be quite simple. Try to reframe this newfound downtime as an opportunity to invest in yourself in ways you haven’t been able to before. It’s a chance to better yourself, to foster deep human connection around you, and honestly to just relish in some R&R. Here are a few things you can do at home to keep your spirits up.
Start a Virtually Date with Friends!:
OK, so I just proposed this to my girlfriends because I miss them SO much and the Coronavirus outbreak has affected our Spring outing plans. Not to fret, I told them to bring their snacks and girl topics just like normal.
BINGE watch a new show:
I know, you may not be the TV type, but let me tell you that you’re missing so much! Take a mental break from social media and try these amazing shows: Chicago PD, Cherish the Day (OWN), or Love is Blind (Netflix).
Spring Clean (Organize):
While you’re quarantined, why not get your personal space in order? This will help you get through some of your day and feel good about yourself for being so productive!
Commit to a Daily or Weekly Physical Challenge:
Considering most gyms have been closed, now is the time to get your indoor fitness on. It takes 21 days to create a habit, so why not get your body moving? It can be as simple as doing jumping jacks and crunches in your living room (maybe during commercial breaks?)
Start a Gratitude Journal or List:
SHHHHHH… Stop the complaining! Make a list right now of all the things your blessed with including the air that you’re breathing. If you have a job write that down too! It can be hard to feel grateful for anything when the world feels like it’s collapsing around you but writing down even the tiniest things that you’re thankful for can boost your morale.
At Home Spa Day:
Now is the time to unclog your pores! This also doubles as self-care. Now is the time to relax and try to be in the present moment, pampering yourself at home. Prepare your skin for the Golden Days that are still come. Drink plenty of water.
Learn A new Recipe:
If there’s ever a time to get creative in the kitchen it’s now. You don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of new stuff, either. Instead, figure out what you have on hand and make something delicious from there. It also doesn’t have to be super extravagant. Maybe you’ll try your hand at making a loaf of bread, a new dessert, or a tasty sauce for your go-to protein. Documenting the process on your Instagram stories can help you feel more connected to the outside world. Get others to join in the fun!
Play in Makeup:
If you’re like me, playing in makeup is my happy space and getting dolled up to stay in the house is firstly theraputic, and number two a mental pick me up. Get yourself together and make sure you feel good about you!
Tell me in the comments below what you’re doing while being quarantined?

This is a great list of things. I managed to organize my pantry, do some laundry, bake some cupcakes and exercise for a bit. I need to do something to keep myself occupied otherwise I will go a little crazy.

I love the virtual date idea. I’m trying to see how many users I can set up on WhatsApp at one time. Get some wine and some snacks and it’s on!
